Monster World #5 (1965) With Peter Cushing Christopher Lee & Gray Morrow
This cover features, of course, Tor Johnson, as painted by Gray Morrow!
More after the jump!
The inside back cover features this still from "The Mask"!
Page 3 is the Table of Contents, and as I'm sure you noticed right away, James Warren and Forry Ackerman's names are right up there at the top. Why did Warren decide to do another monster book, when they already had "Famous Monsters"? Well, money would be the obvious answer, wouldn't it? Anyway... none of the other names mentioned on this page ring a bell with me, so I'll just note that this issue was the October 1965 issue, and this was published bi-monthly, with a cover price of 35¢, and a one-year subscription would set you back $2! That's much less than I paid for this barely good condition copy of this issue!
The first article in this issue celebrates 10 years of Hammer Horror Films, starting with "The Quatermass Experiment" (US Title: "The Creeping Unknown).
This page features a still from "Curse of the Mummy's Tomb" and discussion of "The Curse of Frankenstein" and "The Horor of Dracula"!
Chris Lee as the monster in "The Curse of Frankenstein"!
Kiwi Kingston and Peter Cushing from "The Evil of Frankenstein"!
Discussed here are the remaining Hammer Horror films, plus then-upcoming movies... "Hysteria," "The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb," and "She"!
More about "She" here, as well as "Brainstorm"!
Discussion here of "The Gorgon" and start of discussion of "Fanatic."
More about "Fanatic" here, as well as the third Quatermass movie, and then some discussion of the history of zombie movies...
Still from "The Brides of Dracula"!
And the last page talks about "The Zombie" and "The Reptiles," which I believe was simply renamed "The Reptile" by the time it came out!
